Welcome to Gattaca & my new blog

I wanted to start a blog because I think it’s a good way to keep a range of people informed about key things going on in the business. Whether you’re an employee of the Company, a client of ours, an investor or anyone else who might be interested in what we’re up to, this blog is for you.

So what’s the latest at Gattaca?

A new name & a new identity

As ever, the past few months have been extremely busy for the Group. Back in July, we rebranded from Matchtech Group Plc to take on a new identity as Gattaca. After months of hard work from everyone in the business, it was great to see the new name and branding in print and online as well as hearing our recruiters on the phone remembering to use our new name!

After ‘going live’ on Monday 18 July, we celebrated over the course of the whole week and there was a tangible sense of excitement right across our international network. The picture on the left shows our team in Mexico recreating the Gattaca helix from our new logo as part of an internal competition. I’m pleased to say that the news of our rebrand was also received very positively by our candidates, our clients and the trade press.

The rebrand has now been completed with the official change of our holding company name to Gattaca Plc and stock exchange ‘ticker’ name to ‘GATC’ following approval from our shareholders last week.

Our decision to rebrand followed extensive research amongst our employees, candidates and clients which revealed a degree of confusion amongst our stakeholders about the role of the Group, especially as it shared a name with our specialist engineering recruitment brand Matchtech.

It is important to say that this exercise was about much more than a name change and a new logo. It marks a post-integration step change in the solutions we can now offer our clients and puts us in a unique position in the market – offering end-to-end recruitment solutions to clients and giving them access to increasingly converging engineering and technology skills.

Promising performance

The end of July marked the end of our financial year and although our full year results won’t be announced until November, the figures published in our trading update in August illustrate a positive performance.

Despite the potentially disruptive impact of the EU Referendum result in June, demand for skilled engineers remains strong in the UK and, notably, we have yet to see any adverse impact on vacancy flow since the Brexit outcome. We have seen strong growth in our Engineering division and, in Technology, the market segmentation and sales restructuring we have undertaken in the IT business has given us confidence for the new financial year.

I have great faith in Gattaca’s ability to grow and yield positive outcomes for all of our stakeholders and as such, I recently purchased a further 48,000 Gattaca shares to add to my investment in the Company. Since Gattaca was founded in 1984 (then known as Matchmaker Personnel), the business has been on a continuous journey, adapting to the needs of our clients, our candidates and the industries we service and I strongly believe we will continue to evolve in line with  the market.

New faces and spaces

Over the past few months, we have made a number of internal hires to expand our capabilities.

To help bolster our Client Services division, we have welcomed back Paul King as Client Services Director. Paul returns to the company following a period of 12 years working on the design, deployment and management of global Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) and Managed Service Programmes (MSP) for a range of global companies.

As part of our international expansion plans, we have appointed a Regional Managing Director of the Americas, Matt Evelt, who joined us at the end of August. Matt is a US citizen with 15 years of international Engineering and Technology recruitment experience. Given the opportunity we see for our business in the US we’ve taken on new, larger premises in Dallas. This will enable us to more than double our sales headcount in the next couple of years as we set out to become the leading Engineering and Technology recruiter in Texas - the first step in our US strategic development.

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog and hearing what we’ve been up to. Look out for my next update in October.
